Glen Victor Schummer, 77, of Sturgis, South Dakota, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 9, 2023.

Glen was born to Fred and Mary Ann (Leitner) Schummer on May 11, 1945, in Sturgis, SD. The family lives 25 miles east of Sturgis.

Growing up Glen attended high school in Vale, SD, where he played football.

On September 10, 1971, he married Wanda Salmen. He went to SDSU for one year, studying forestry. He then followed his wife to St. Paul, Minnesota, while she was attending nursing school.

Glen was a proud rancher who loved to have people come over to talk while cooking them prairie chickens on his old stove in his shop. He was passionate about hunting and fishing, and over the years he would insist on someone else taking the shot, but this year Glen wanted to take the shot. Afterwards he posed for a photo of him and the deer.

Glen had and loved many dogs throughout his life. When they would pass away, he would bury each one of them at the base of each tree near their house. Buddy was Glen's last dog, and he was cremated and spread over the little pond on the farm.

Glen is survived by his wife, Wanda; sons, Jason (Jamie), Jeremy, (Kenya), and Justin (Desiree); grandchildren, Jordan, Jessie, Jaylee, Jaxson, Nick (Sarah), Dustin, Gavan, Hunter, and Korben; great grandchildren, Leo and Bexley; sisters, Dianna (Dave) Komes of Rapid City and Sherry Heffernan of Minneapolis, MN. Glen was preceded in death by his parents.

Glen was loved by his family and friends and will be missed very much.
