Gillette resident Glenn R. Gilbert, 69, died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, of renal cancer.

He was born June 16, 1948, to Lloyd and Viola Tomason Gilbert in Burke, South Dakota.

His childhood was spent on the family farm in Gregory, South Dakota. He graduated from Gregory High school in 1966, and went into the Navy in 1968. He was discharged from the Nave in 1972 after serving a Seabee tour in Vietnam.

After the navy, he met and married Karen Stevicks and they had two children together, Scott and Drian Gilbert.

Mr. Gilbert ran road construction, on rigs in the oil field and for 34 years at the Belle Aire mine in Gillette. He retired from the mine in 2012 and enjoyed working on his tractors, haying, helping his son build the road to his new house and playing with his grandchildren.

Mr. Gilbert is survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen; his two sons, Scott and Brian Gilbert; daughter, Wendy Gilbert; and two grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.

Cremation has taken place. There will be no funeral as per Mr. Gilbert's request.
