IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gordan Gene
Babcock
March 12, 1933 – November 26, 2025
Gordon Gene Babcock, 92, of Creighton, South Dakota, sadly left us on November 26, 2025, and will now be joining his wife, Gladys, in the hereafter.
Gordon was a loving husband, father, and friend to all. He loved life and contributed greatly to his community and world. His infectious humor and laughter were a joy to all who encountered him. He will be sorely missed!
In childhood, Gordon played all the sports offered at school and also became involved in plays, musicals, and operettas to pursue his love of music. "I liked all kinds of songs."
Gordon was a rancher raising beef cattle at Creighton, 20 miles north of Wall, SD. He was an avid hunter and greatly enjoyed trail rides, cribbage, and, later in life, traveling the world with Gladys.
He and Gladys were longstanding members of the Wall Methodist Church.
At thirty-four years of age, Gordon was named "Outstanding Young Farmer." He also won awards for soil, moisture, and soil stewardship. In 1992, Gordon won the Pennington County award for Agriculture Stabilization Conservation. In between work, Gordon served on the township board for 30 years and was a school board member.
Gordon served the community on the Pennington County Weed Board, the Township board, the Election board, the Precinct Committee, Creighton Hall, and the ASCS (US Consolidated Farm Services Agency) board. For years, he served as Creighton's school board treasurer. He was also a member of the Farm Bureau and the Wall Lions Club.
He is survived by his three sons, Randy, Bradley, and James; two granddaughters, Dani and April; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church in Rapid City. Burial will take place at Wall Cemetery.
