Gordon Deters, 80, of Sturgis passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023, at Monument Health Sturgis Care Center.  Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 am on Friday, March 31 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Salem.  Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Gordon John Deters was born August 12, 1942, in Sioux Falls, SD to Ed and Margaret (Lunders) Deters.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Salem, SD.  After finishing his schooling at St. Mary's Catholic School, he joined the National Guard and received a medical discharge.  He moved to Lead, SD and lived for a time with relatives Bob and Elna Koch.  There he joined a new family of brothers and a sister, Tom, Dick, Albert, John and Theresa.  For the next 34 years, he worked for Homestake Gold Mine, driving the electric train loading and unloading the ore.  When he retired, he moved to Sturgis, SD.  Along his life journey he was blessed with some special friends: Sandy and Jim Plat and daughter Angie, Dessirree O'Brion and Gary Finn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law, Primo Simone and Russ Veilleaux and nephew Jim Simone.

He is survived by his siblings, Faye Simone of River Falls, WI, Judy Veilleaux of Oroville, CA, Linda Deters (Will Solis) of San Diego, CA, Jim (Joyce) Deters of Broomfield, CO, Deb (Milo) Schaeffer of Olivet, SD and Jeff (Patti) Deters of Salem, SD.

There will be a visitation Wednesday, March 29, 2023, 5-7 p.m., at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. A Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m.
