IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gregory Louis
Bernal, Jr.
May 2, 1967 – January 17, 2024
Gregory Louis Bernal Jr. died suddenly in his home on Wednesday, January 17th in Lead, SD.
Greg was born May 2, 1967, in Chula Vista, CA, to Gregory Bernal, Sr., and Patricia (Shea) Bernal. He graduated from Lynbrook High School in San Jose, CA, in 1986 where Greg excelled in wrestling.
He married his soulmate, Julie (Lewis) Bernal in Las Vegas, NV, in 2000. Together they had 2 incredible daughters, Megan Bernal (20) and Alyssa Bernal (17) who were his pride, and joy.
Greg was a hard worker, with a huge heart. If someone needed help, he was there, ready to offer his.
Greg enjoyed working with his hands and creating things, whether woodworking, 3D printing, painting, or capturing memories with his cameras. He invested hours into his hobbies, from flying drones and RC planes, to driving RC cars and riding snowmobiles and 4 wheelers. He embraced life.
Greg spent much of his life around dogs. From family pets, to helping with his parents Irish Setters for show. Dogs were a source of joy. His 'boyo' Garrin was especially spoiled.
Greg owned and operated his own business, Bernal Trucking. He loved the freedom of the open road but gave it up when he became a father. He worked as a Deputy and a Correctional Officer in New Mexico before moving to South Dakota, where he devoted his time to his family. They were his world, and he was theirs. He will be missed.
Greg is survived by his wife, Julie Bernal; his daughters, Megan Bernal and Alyssa Bernal, of Lead, SD; his mother, Patricia Bernal of Lovington, NM; his sister, Deana (Damon) Herr of Fair Oaks, CA.; his brother, Chris Bernal of Las Vegas, NV; his nephews, Aaron Herr and Ethan Herr of Reno, NV; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Greg was preceded in death by his father, Gregory Bernal, Sr.; his paternal grandparents, Louis and Beatrice Bernal; his maternal grandparents, Rick and Arvilla Shea; father-in-law, Dwane Lewis; mother-in-law, Gussie Lewis; and brother-in-law, Mark Lewis.
