Obituary

Gregory "Greg" Scott Svihovec, 54, died on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, in Rapid City.
Greg was born in Lemmon, SD, to James Curtis and Darlene (Seidel) Svihovec on March 28, 1964. He attended schools in Lemmon and Rapid City, graduating from Rapid City Central High in 1982.
At the age of 4, Greg started playing the ukulele and at the age of 6 played and sang on stage in front of an audience along with his sister, Laurie, at the Whitetail Lounge in Lemmon, SD, which his parents owned. He joined his first band, Harmony, in 1981 as a bass guitarist, and has played with several bands, including The Wilt Brothers, Beerslingers, and The Cowboy Killers, and several fellow musicians until the time of his death. Greg was inducted into the Legends of Dakota Country Music Hall of Fame in October 2017.
In June 2009, Greg donated his stem cells to save his sister, Laurie's life, who was undergoing ALL cancer treatment at Mayo in Rochester, MN. For this we will be forever grateful.
Survivors include his father, James Curtis; his mother, Darlene Weber, and stepfather, Mark Weber; son and best buddy, Logan Svihovec, age 25, and Logan's mother, Aubrie; his sister and brother-in-law, Laurie (Duke) Hurd; his stepbrother, Jeremy Weber; his nephew, Brett (Amy) Hurd and their son, Caden; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and all his musician brothers and sisters.
We will miss his laugh, dry sense of humor, and his ability to remember nearly everything.
A gathering of his friends and family to share memories and celebrate Greg's life will be held at a later date.
A memorial has been established and donations may be sent to the Svihovec family in care of Kinkade Funeral Chapel, 1235 Junction Avenue, Sturgis, SD 57785.
