Brownie was born January 6, 1919, on the homestead near Zeona to Grover and Nellie (Weedman) Breidenbach. He attended Spring Creek grade school and graduated high school in Spearfish. He married Dorothy Haugen and had a son Bradley and daughter Beth. On February 4, 1948 Brownie married LaVerne Miles, Newell, SD. Though Brownie had developed multiple occupational skills his primary joy was truck driving. In 1960 he moved his family to Oregon where he resided for thirty years. In 1982, he started his own gravel truck business and operated in Oregon and Wyoming. From 1993 to 2003 Brownie maintained dual residency in Apache Junction, Arizona, and Tualitin, Oregon, returning to Sturgis in 2003. Though Brownie took great pleasure in camping, hunting, and fishing his greater joy was in giving a helping hand to a neighbor or friend. Regardless of the circumstance, Brownie was always first to step up and provide the assistance needed. In 1981 Brownie came to a personal faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. As a result, he was active in both denominational and non-denominational churches between Arizona and Oregon. For several years Brownie assisted the Salvation Army, Hillsboro, OR by providing transportation and delivery services to the home bound. In addition, he cut and hauled wood as a member of the Oregon Wood Cutters Association to assist the needy. While residing in Arizona one of Brownies favorite activities was day trip explorations into the desert. He also thoroughly enjoyed comedy club activities and developed his wood carving talent while residing at the Superstition Sunrise Senior Retirement Park in Apache Junction, AZ. His many carvings will be treasured by family and friends.
