Ed was born January 31, 1932, in Liverpool, WV. Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Ravenswood, WV, where they lived until he entered the Air Force as an Air Policeman in 1950. His first assignment was to Wiesbaden, Germany, where he met and married his first wife, Hildegard "Heidi" Weber. Their marriage lasted until her death in 1999. During his Air Force career, Ed had assignments in Great Britain, Florida, France, Germany, and Thailand. His last assignment was at Ellsworth Air Force Base, SD, where he retired from the Air Force after 26 years in 1976. After the Air Force, Ed and Heidi moved to Sturgis, SD, where he continued his career in law-enforcement. In 1980, they moved to Hawthorne, NV, where he worked in plant security for almost 18 years at the Hawthorne Army Ammunition Plant, eventually advancing to Manager of Security. He retired from Hawthorne in 1998 and moved back to Sturgis. In November 2003, Ed married Roberta Martin of Hawthorne, NV. Their marriage lasted 15 years and they lived in Sturgis.
Ed was a member of Lion's International for over 35 years. He was President of the Sturgis Club three times and a Melvin Jones Fellow. He was also a VFW Life Member.
Retired Air Force Master Sergeant Guy Edward "Ed" Mullinex, Jr. passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019, in Sturgis, SD.
He is survived by his wife, Roberta and daughter, Kellie Fanger of Sturgis, SD; and the children of his first marriage to Heidi: son, Klaus Mullinex (Ginny) of Louisville, KY; and daughters, Cheryl Cantrell (Jay) of Titusville, FL, Caren Korabek (Charlie) of Murphy, TX, and Cindy Rockwood (Jim) of Virginia Beach, VA. Ed was blessed with 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Ed was preceded in death by his first wife, Heidi; his parents, Guy Edward Mullinex, Sr. and Bessie Sayre Mullinex; and his three sisters, Geneva Shockey, Grace Young, and Gertrude Lehew.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Steve Talley officiating. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
