Harley D. Greenwaldt, 80, of Box Elder, SD, passed away peacefully May 31, 2015, at Rapid City Regional Hospital with his loving wife, Helen, and other loving family members by his side.
Harley Darwin Greenwaldt was born January 31, 1935, in Parkers Prairie, MN, to Walter and Violet (Wright) Greenwaldt. He was a very proud retired veteran from the U.S.A.F., having served in both Vietnam and Korea. His assignments included being assigned as the refueling crew chief for Air Force One, which was assigned to President John F. Kennedy. Harley was also a part of the dedication and naming of Ellsworth AFB by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Harley married Helen Dianne "Toots" Foster in 1980 in Box Elder.
Harley was the past president of the Ellsworth and Box Elder Lion's Clubs, and was a member of the American Legion Post 315 in Box Elder. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved being outdoors.
Those left to mourn his passing include his wife, Helen "Toots" Greenwaldt; son, Terry (Kathi) Greenwaldt; daughters, Kathy (Doug) Woolridge and Debbie Greenwaldt; step-sons, Clifford & Kelly Foster; brothers, Roger, Robert, Archie, and Tom; sisters, Marion and Margie; a host of loving cousins and grandkids; and his ex-wife and friend, Marlene Moon. He is also survived by a large posse of friends and hunting buddies.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harley's name to your local American Legion.
