Obituary

Harley A. Mix, 77, Sturgis, died on Friday, August 9, 2013, at the Lead-Deadwood Regional Hospital.

He was born on July 24, 1936, at St. Joseph Hospital in Deadwood. He was the ninth child born to Robert and Ella (Harper) Mix of Terraville. He was raised in Terraville, attended school in Terraville and Lead, and went on to graduate from Lead High School. He worked for the Homestake mine most of his working life until his retirement. Harley lived in Terraville until 1982, when it was no longer considered a town. At this time he moved to Old Nemo Road and then on to Boulder Canyon, which was his home when he passed away.

Harley was well loved by all his family and friends, and will surely be missed by all.

He is survived by his brother, Robert "Bob" Mix of Houston, TX; sisters, Lorna Mix of Boulder Canyon, and Nellie Mix of Deadwood; many nieces and nephews, and his best friend, Eugene "Oscar" Kinney of Sturgis.

Harley is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ella Mix; brothers, Ray, Cloyd, William, and Marvin; and sisters, Helen Mix Kinney, Hazel Mix Trimmer, and Arlene Mix Burke.

At his bedside during his illness were his sisters, Lorna and Nellie; Donald and Carol Kinney; and his best friend, Eugene Kinney.

According to Harley's wishes, he will be cremated and there will be no service held.

A memorial has been established to the Lead-Deadwood Humane Society.
