Harold R. "Dude" Obert, 82, Lead, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2007, at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center.
Burial with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veteran's Honor Guard will be at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Dude was born June 20, 1925, in Milton, Ore., to Clarence and Emma (Brown) Obert. He was raised in Milton and picked hops as a child during the Depression. He was educated in Milton and graduated from Milton Mac High. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 16. Following his honorable discharge, Dude attended Law School in Madison, Wis. He began his law practice in Colorado Springs, Colo. Dude served as Vice Regional Council to the EPA in San Francisco. He lived and worked on the West Coast for two oil companies as an attorney.
Dude moved to Worland, Wyo., where he met and married Myrna Ferrel. He worked in the Worland area before they moved to Sidney, Mont., where he was a District Court Judge from 1985 until 1991 when he retired. They moved to Colorado Springs and later to Lead.
Dude was a member of Barristers in Billings. He was an avid photographer and was a loyal fan of the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos. He hated and loved golfing. Dude also enjoyed grilling steaks and burgers. He was a fan of classical music.
Survivors include his wife, Myrna Obert, Lead; three sons, Stan (Chris) Obert, Denver, Kevin (June) Briceno, Helena, Mont., and Troy Briceno, Casper, Wyo.; four daughters, Michelle (Carlyle) Durbin, Colorado Springs, Jan Obert, Denver, Joneen (Brent) Kallevig, Sidney, and Dayna (Jeffery) Bird, Colorado Springs; one sister, Betsy McGuire, Milton-Freewater, Ore.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Laura Obert; one grandson, Brandon Briceno; and numerous brothers and sisters.
