Obituary

Harold was born July 22, 1924 in Dalzell, SD, to Paul and Elizabeth (Kramer) Thomas.

Harold attended and graduated Rapid City High School. He served in the US Army in WWII from 1943 until 1945. Harold married Mary Jane Maier on May 20, 1962, in Rapid City, SD. He was an auto mechanic and after working numerus other garages, he settled in at Thomas Auto with his brother until his retirement. Harold loved to play and teach his granddaughters the organ, take them fishing, and eat crab with them on Friday nights. One of his many sayings was, "I never have met a stranger."

Harold P. Thomas, 92, Rapid City, died Monday, February 6, 2017, at his home in Rapid City.

Harold is survived by his three daughters, Michelle (Brian) Smith, Omaha, NE, Diane (Terry) Upton, Jacksonville, AL, and Barbara (Bob) Watson, Roswell, NM; one brother, Frank Thomas, Rapid City; one sister, Betty Bloom, UT; seven grandchildren, Isabella and Olivia Smith, Steve and David Griffith, Stacy Upton, Meredith Scott, and Travis Watson; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane; one daughter, Cindy Griffith; one grandson; and one brother, Leland Thomas.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, February14, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints in Rapid City, SD. Interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Story Book Island in Rapid City.
