Adelle Schuelke, 86, Sturgis, died Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at her residence in Sturgis.
Adelle was born August 21, 1919 in Sturgis, SD to Florence (Hadley) and Bob Price of Maurine, SD. She attended school in Maurine area for 10 years and graduated form Newell High School in 1937. She attended business college in Rapid City, SD and Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish for one year. After teaching for 3 years, she and Darrell Schuelke of Mud Butte, SD were united in marriage April 23, 1942 at Sundance, WY. They made their home in Maurine, SD where they operated a garage and filling station. In 1995, they moved to Sturgis due to Darrel's failing health, where she remained until her death.
They raised six children, five girls and one boy. Terry Brink and her husband, Darwin, Sturgis, Frankie Harper and her husband, Paul, Faith, SD, Vicki Garrigan and her husband, Jack, Pierre, SD, Lou Ann Samuelson and her husband, Butch, of Sturgis, Jill Dunbar and her husband, Bill, Mobridge, Keith and his wife, Teresa, Schuelke of Faith; one brother, Bob Price, Maurine, SD; one sister, Lucille Humble, Sturgis; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, grandparents, and one great grandson.
Adelle would like to be remembered as a caring person whose family came first. She crocheted many baby afghans, also large and small ones, and pillows for family and friends.
Her specialty in cooking was chicken and noodles like her mother and grandmother, also fudge and popcorn balls at Christmas. She enjoyed yard and garden work when she was able.
Private family interment at Black Hills National Cemetery.
