Harriette was born and reared in Woonsocket, SD, and lived in Wessington Springs, SD, most of her life. Also, she lived in Burke, SD, and she and her late husband were in motel management in Nebraska and South Dakota. She worked as a secretary for the Gregory County, SD, Sheriff's Office for several years and was Lutheran by faith. She later moved to Vidalia, GA, in 2017.
Harriette Elaine Fuerst, age 83, of Vidalia, Georgia, died Friday, June 26, 2020, at her home after an extended illness.
Harriette is survived by one son, David Fuerst and Greg May of Vidalia, GA; four grandchildren, Tom Fuerst and wife Cassie of Memphis, Tennessee, Michelle Fuerst, Tim Fuerst and wife Ashley, and Travis Fuerst and wife Jordan, all of Jefferson City, Missouri; nine great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and many special friends throughout her life, including Merle Suratt and Linda Rountree.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilmore "Jeff" Fred Fuerst; son, Tom Fuerst; great-grandson, Bradyn; and her parents, Burr Decker and Martha Decker Thomas.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 3, 2020, at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD, with Pastor Tom Fuerst officiating.
