Harry E. Selby was born October 18, 1939, to Oliver and Nettie (Hart) Selby in Faith, SD. He grew up and attended school in Faith. Harry started working immediately in the construction field and his first "good paying" job included painting the entire Faith Hospital at the age of twelve. He worked a variety of jobs including Zanstra Construction and trucking for East-West Motor Express over the road for over forty years. He also worked for Dick Skavang at the service station and as a parts-man in an implement dealership. In 1984, Harry fell in love with Janice (Gross) and they were married on December 1, 1984.
In 1994, Harry's health ended his trucking career and he was forced into retirement. This gave him more time to enjoy his passions of spending time with his grandchildren and racing. He followed Johnny Roy's four wheelers and later crew-chiefed for Mark Potts on a Rear-Engine-Rail Dragster traveling all over the US. Harry also loved snowmobiling and golfing. One of his other passions was to drive around car lots and implement dealerships looking at cars and tractors. He was always known to have a tractor around even though he didn't farm.
Harry is survived by his wife, Janice of Rapid City, SD, and Gillette, WY; two sons, Dan (friend Michelle) Selby, of Bismark, ND, and Johnny Roy (Marcy) Bowman, of Gillette, WY; a special daughter, Tammy (Bob) Von Colln, of Rapid City, SD; one brother, Jim (Janice) Selby of Faith, SD; one sister, JoAnn (Marvin) Jensen of Faith, SD; and four grandchildren, Jessica Selby, Tori Bowman, Mackenzie Von Colln, and Joel Bowman.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Arthur and Scott Selby; two grandsons, Browdy and Brady Bowman; one brother, Harlen Selby; and two sisters, Evelyn Young and Violet Ahnberg.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to the American Heart Association and to Diabetic Research.
