Hazel C. Koistinen, 91, Sturgis, passed away on October 25, 2014, at the Sturgis Senior Care Center.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on October 30, 2014, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Sturgis, with Pastor Harold Holder officiating.

A second memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on November 1, 2014, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake Norden, SD.

Hazel was born on October 19, 1923, to Charlie and Olga Juntunen. She was raised on a farm near Rolla, ND with her nine brothers and sisters.

On November 11, 1941, she married Elvin Koistinen. They moved to the Lake Norden area where they farmed and raised their three children. In 1994, after the death of her husband, Hazel moved to Custer, SD.

She is survived by one daughter, Diane (Reed), The Villages, FL; one son, Lyle (Yvonne), Sturgis; one sister, Helen Halverson, Bellevue, WA; two brothers, Melvin (Betty), Rolla, ND, and Dale (Linda), Rolla, ND; 11 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.

Hazel is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elvin; one daughter, Linda; five brothers; one sister; and one great-grandson.

A memorial has been established to the Hospice of the Northern Hills.
