Obituary

Helen Margaret Gould, 91, died on Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Grace United Methodist Church in Piedmont with Pastor Karl Kroger officiating. Burial will follow at Elk Vale Cemetery in Piedmont.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 27, 2013 from noon to 8:00pm, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.

Helen was born in Macksburg, Iowa, on April 3, 1922, to Edward and Faith (Perryman) Pinckney. On September 7, 1937 she married Avery Gould. They lived in Iowa until 1948, when they moved to the Piedmont area.

Helen was a strong and generous woman that enjoyed many things, but her greatest joy was her family. Helen had a great love for the Lord and would take every opportunity to enjoy His works and to teach this love to all of her children. She truly adored music and would play for church often, but she was happiest when her family would gather around her and sing while she played the piano. She also enjoyed taking her children to go on picnics, to the lake to dip their feet in the water, and going treasure hunting. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and playing Scrabble and rummy. She was a very talented gardener, a wonderful teacher, and could whip up a meal on short notice for a small army. Her family will remember her as a very knowledgeable woman that taught them everything they needed to know in life, and could be counted on to keep them on task, but would make it fun every time. Helen was the backbone of her family and will be greatly missed.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church for most of her lifetime.

Helen is survived by her sons, Leland Gould of Rapid City, Edwin (Theresa) Gould of Eaton, CO, Avery J. Gould of Madalia, CA, Donald (Sue) Gould of Spearfish, and Gary (Maureen) Gould of Hot Springs; daughters, Sharon (Dale) Bennett of Zeeland, MI, Linda (Richard) Archuleta of Winlock, WA, Mary Knutson of Bonners Ferry, ID, Gina Gould of Bremerton, WA, and Vicki Gould of Hillsboro, OR; brothers, Robert and William Pinckney; sisters, Mable McMains, Ruth Blauer, and Edna Christensen; 41 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Avery, her parents, and sons, Virgil and David.

A memorial has been established to Grace United Methodist Church in Piedmont.
