Helen Louise Rogers, 92, Sturgis, died Thursday, August 1, 2013, at the Sturgis Regional Hospital. God granted her wish to die without pain and in her sleep.
Closed casket visitation will be Sunday, August 11th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, August 12, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Arnold Kari officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
She was born to John and Mina Lindic on July 17, 1921, in Sturgis, SD. She preferred and went by the name of Louise. She married Tracy Hamblet in 1939 and from that marriage 5 children were born. Tracy unexpectedly and suddenly died in 1961. Children of Tracy and Louise include Vicki L. Forrest (Aaron), Houston, TX, and son, Sam; Tracy "Gene" Jr. (June), Rapid City, SD, and children from previous marriage, Tracy "J.R." Hamblet III and Brooke Hinkle, and stepson, Matthew Berger; Kristin F. Hausman/Szentimry, Pahrump, NV, and children, Mark Hausman, Barbie Overton, Tina Brown, and Stacy Hausman; Jeffery "Jeff" (Janelle), NewCastle, WA, and daughter, May; and Cynthia "Cindy" S. Townsend (Dan), Sturgis, and children, Hollie Jeffery and David.
Louise had one half-brother and six half-sisters from her mother's previous marriage to William Doyle who was killed in a horse and buggy accident on their ranch near Tilford, SD. Brother, VP Doyle, and sisters, Florence Sjolander, Doris Miller, Wilmena "Billie" Guglielmotti-Carr, Marie Doyle, Clair Doyle, and Wanda Doyle all preceded her in death.
Louise married Raymond G Rogers in 1963 and he adopted Jeff and Cindy, the two younger Hamblet children. In 2001, Raymond preceded Louise in death as did her daughter, Kristin, in 2008.
Louise leaves 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was a devoted Roman Catholic (St. Francis of Assisi), past member of the Sturgis City Council, and a well-known figure in the community. Her favorite past-time was playing bridge and rummy cube with so many of her close friends. She also enjoyed quilting and needle work. Her greatest love of all was her family; she often said without their love and support she would have never been able to have lived a fulfilling 92 years of life.
A memorial has been established.
