Helen Eleanor Vandenberg, age 93, a longtime resident of Deadwood and most recently Sturgis, SD, passed away in her home with family members by her side.  Extended illness took her life on July 11th, 2026.

Born in Kettle River, MN on March 30, 1933 to parents Matti and Lulu Aijala.

A dedicated mother and housewife, she was preceeded in death by her husband Lyle, daughter Doreen and thirteen brothers and sisters.

Helen is survived by seven children, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

 A visitation will be held at Kinkade Funeral Chapel from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026. A graveside service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis.
