Henry "Hank" Reitz, 92, of Spearfish, died May 15, 2015, at David M. Dorsett Health Care in Spearfish.

Henry was born October 17, 1922, in Minatare, NE. He started school in Idaho, but when still young, the family moved to Vale, SD, where he continued his education, later graduating from Belle Fourche High School.

Henry joined the U.S. Army in 1942, serving during WW II and Korea where he received a Purple Heart. Henry reenlisted after the war, continuing to serve for over 23 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant in March of 1966. He was stationed in the Phillipines, Japan, New Guinea, Austria, Korea, Germany, Ft. Knox, Kentucky, the Presidio in San Francisco, and Ft. Ord, CA.

After his retirement, Henry lived in California where he worked as a prison guard. In his off time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching  sporting events. On the 18th of May, 1985, Henry married Dorothy Lungren in Sturgis, SD, making their home for several years in Watsonville,
CA. They moved to Spearfish in 1988 where they enjoyed their retirement.

Henry will be deeply missed by his step-children, Cindy (Alan) Merkel and Scott (Barbara) Lungren of Spearfish, Peggy (Greg) Calvert of WV, and Ford Lungren of OK; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.

Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, and eight brothers and sisters.
