Herbert "Shorty" Albrecht, 89, Sturgis, died Sunday, May 22, 2011 at the Sturgis Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Pastor Denzel Nonhof officiating. Burial follows at the Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
A memorial has been established.
Shorty was born June 21, 1921 to Edward and Anna (Job) Albrecht at Leola, SD. He grew up in the area and worked on area farms for several years. In 1944 he married Delphy Becker and that union a daughter, Sharon and son Howard, were born. They later moved to Aberdeen where he worked for H.V. Johnston Culvert Company for 11 years. In 1960 the family moved to the Black Hills where he worked for Homestake Mining Company for 24 years before retiring in 1983. He and Delphy were later divorced.
After his retirement, he went to work for F.O. Jolley Funeral Home part time for the next 11 years. Then, he worked for Lookout Memorial Hospital in Spearfish until September 26, 1997.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis.
Survivors include his son Howard (Laurie) Albrecht, Sturgis; brothers, Paul (Helen) Albrecht, Green Valley, CA, Tommy (Mindy) Albrecht, Bismarck, ND, Melvin (Vangie) Albrecht, Lead, SD; sisters, Annie (Harold) Bauer, Gettysburg, SD, Martha Jerke, Aberdeen, SD, Marcella Bonnet, Tempe, AZ; son in law, Scott Moses, Sturgis; grandchildren, Kelli (Deron) Moses Dalfi, Murrels Inlet, South Carolina, Cory (Julie) Albrecht, Gillette, WY, Jami Albrecht, Belle Fourche; step granddaughter, Kristina Young, Spearfish; great grandchildren, Tia Marak, Myrtle Beach, SC, Jayden and Jordyn Albrecht, Spearfish, Lauren Collins, Belle Fourche; very special friend, Anita Williamson, Spearfish; also numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step father Chris; daughter, Sharon Moses, brothers, Milbert, Albert, Allen; sisters, Alice and Gertrude.
