Herbert W. “Buddy” Macvittie III, 37, Sturgis, SD, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Monument Health Hospice House in Rapid City. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

     Herbert W. Macvittie was born April 7, 1988, to Herbert and Theresa (McLeroy) in Atwater, CA. His father Herbert MacVittie Jr was serving in the Air Force and was transferred to Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota, shortly after Buddy was born. Buddy attended school in the Douglas School System, later obtaining his GED at Box Elder Job Corps. He was the class clown even in his last days he commanded laughs from a room full of his closest friends and family. His humor often got him in trouble, but his infectious smile and caring personality would always work the consequences in his favor. He held various jobs, always willing to help someone in need. He especially enjoyed working on cars, which he learned from his dad. He took great pride teaching auto maintenance to his nephew, among others.

     In 2012, his pride and joy was born, daughter Anna Bella Macvittie. He later met Melissa Terhune in 2017 in Sturgis and they were married September 12, 2020.

     Buddy began having numerous health issues around this time but continued to work on cars as long as he could. Even while facing his health issues, he maintained a positive outlook and worked to not be a burden on others.

     Buddy is survived by his wife, Melissa; mother, Theresa; daughter, Anna Bella Macvittie and her mother, Christina; grandmother, Lisa; sisters, Tasia Hart, Brittany (Ryan) Macvittie-Payte, Megan Macvittie; along with numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Herbert Macvittie Jr; brother-in-law, Adam Hart; and his other grandparents.
