Herman A. Falk, 92, Spearfish, died Thursday, May 24, 2012 at the VA Black Hills Health Care Center at Fort Meade.

Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Monday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Tom Martin officiating. Burial with military honors by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.

Herman was born April 29, 1920 at Nisland, SD, to Antone G. and Sophia G. (Wennberg) Falk. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Following his honorable discharge from the US Army, he returned to Newell where he worked as a carpenter building homes and commercial buildings until his retirement.

He married Martha Darlene Keller at Lead, SD, on January 26, 1964.

Herman enjoyed playing steel guitar, mandolin and lead guitar with the "Playboys". They played many dances over the years and had a great time. He also liked a good game of horseshoes, bowling and waterskiing in his younger years. Darlene and Herman also like betting on the dog races when the track was open in Rapid City.

Survivors include his sons, Dale Falk, Spearfish, Gary (Amy) Falk, Spearfish; brother, Marvin (Ruth) Falk, Delta, CO; grandchildren, Kenzie and Rileigh Falk, Spearfish, Sara, Jason and Laura Falk, Rapid City; also numerous nieces and nephews; sister in law June Kosola, Newell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Darlene; son William; grandson William Delbert; brothers, Mandy, Harold, Kelley; sisters, Edith, Elma, Hazel and Ellen.

A memorial has been established to the Newell Volunteer Fire Department and the Newell Ambulance Service.
