Obituary

Hertha L. Taggart, 87, of Deadwood, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at the Dorsett Health Care Facility in Spearfish.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 14, 2006, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Pastor Pat McBride officiating. Burial followed at Black Hills National Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour prior to services.

Hertha was born Sept. 25, 1918, at Hosmer, to Lydia (Sackman) and Jacob Fiechtner. She attended the Twin Buttes School. She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith June 24, 1934, in Isabel. She married Fred Rothe in Longmont, Colo. He passed away April 8, 1948. She married Thomas E. Taggart on May 11, 1956. After Thomas's retirement in 1975, they moved to Deadwood. Thomas passed away April 2, 1986.

Hertha was a member for many years of the VFW Auxiliary and Eagles Clubs of Deadwood. She loved to bake, do handwork and quilting, work crossword puzzles, and had a special affection for animals and children. Hertha was an avid Bingo player. She was known for her generosity and never refused help to anyone who asked.

She is survived by one sister, Alvina Heinrich; five brothers, Beno, Ruben, Richard, Henry, and Robert Riechtner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both husbands, her parents, Jacob and Lydia Fiechtner, and step-mother, Louisa Fiechtner; two sisters, Caroline Faulkner and Deana White; and one brother, Alvin Fiechtner.
