Hilda Williamson, 91, Spearfish, SD, and formerly of Newell and Vale died on Tuesday August 8, 2006, at the Dorsett Regional Care Center.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at the Christian Fellowship Church in Newell with Pastor John Williamson officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Newell.
Hilda was born June 21, 1915, in Sterling, CO, to Pete and Rosalie (Raak) Korwelt. The Korwelt family moved to Belle Fourche in 1927 where she attended Ingersoll school. She later attended the Empire School and Vale High School graduating from Lead High School in 1933. After graduating from high school, Hilda was employed by the Bell Telephone Company as an operator in Lead.
Hilda and Leonard were married on June 17, 1935, in Lead. The couple purchased a farm and moved to the Vale area in 1938 where they lived until 1956 when they sold the farm and moved into a new home in Newell. Leonard continued to operate a sheep grazing range and ultimately the couple moved to Spearfish in 1986.
She made and gave away hundreds of hollow sugar eggs containing miniature Easter scenes. Many of her friends were also the beneficiaries of her dried floral note cards and potholders.
Over the years Hilda was a member of the Aladdin and Empire Women's Clubs, Rebekah Lodge and Order of the Eastern Star. As a golfer, she was a member of the Newell Gold Club and the Spearfish Canyon Country Club. Always an avid card player in retirement, she enjoyed Bridge with her friends three or four times a week.
Survivors include two sons, Harold Williamson, Palm Springs, Ca. and Dale Williamson, Fresno, Ca.; and four grandchildren; Brad of Aptos, CA, Brian of Palm Desert, CA, and Gary Lobel of Newport Beach CA, and Sandy Jamison of San Jose , CA.; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Leonard "Bud "Williamson; son Norman Williamson; and two sisters, Mildred and Edna.
