Howard James Felkey, 70, Black Hawk, died on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at the Ft. Meade VA Medical Center.

A visitation will be held at the Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church in Black Hawk on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, from 7:00 to 9:00pm.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, on Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor Randy Sturzenbecher officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors provided by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard.

Howard was born on March 26, 1943, in Santa Cruz, CA, the son of Harlan and Selma (Julin) Felkey. He graduated from Graettinger High School in 1961, and entered directly into the United States Navy until 1965. In December 1962, he married Betty Ann Burr in Jackson, MN. In 1965, Howard left the Navy and continued to work on submarines for the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry-dock.

In 1968, Howard began a lifelong career with the Xerox Corporation and retired from Xerox in 2003. In his spare time he enjoyed traveling on extended vacations with his family, hunting, fishing and watching the Minnesota Twins play baseball.

Howard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Betty; his children and their families: Michael Felkey of Patchogue, NY; Laura Felkey (Alex) of Rapid City, SD; Daniel and Michelle Felkey (Ethan, Claire, Eve and Chloe) of Black Hawk, SD; three sisters: Linda Reiter and Dennis of Toledo, OH, Diane Heinrichs and Pete of Estherville, IA and Lila Clipperton and Richard of Nashua, IA; and sisters in-law, Carol Felkey of Graettinger, IA and Sharon Johnson of Dallas, TX.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

A memorial has been established to Ft. Meade VA Hospice.
