August 22, 1923 – September 16, 1996
Howard Andrew Larson was born at Roubaix on August 22, 1923, to Charles and Mary (Hill) Larson. He was confirmed in the First Lutheran Church in Lead, SD, and attended school in Lead. Howard joined the army on September 29, 1944, and was a combat veteran of World War II where he saw action in the Philippines and Okinawa. He was honorably discharged on September 14, 1946.
He married Jeanette Miller in Lead on September 4, 1948. He worked for the Homestake Mine for 17 years in the construction Department. In 1972, he received his Associate of Science Degree from National College of Business. He was then employed by Lawrence County as the Director of Equalization (CAA, CSDA) until he retired in 1989 to enjoy life with his family.
He was happiest helping other people, especially his family.
Survivors include his wife Jeanette, Deadwood; one daughter, Sharon Woodle and her husband, Larry, Deadwood; one son, Gary Larson, and his wife, Karon, Roubaix; five grandchildren, Lacey and Holly Woodle, and Jennifer, Jeremy, and Jessica Larson; two brothers, Ariel and Harold Larson, both of Roubaix; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Winifred, Lucille, and Lilly, two brothers, John W. and Charles W.
A memorial has been established.
