Inez Edith Kerner, 77, Sturgis, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at the Sturgis Regional Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be Friday, September 21, 2007 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Keith Nelson officiating. Burial follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
Inez was born October 17, 1929, at Agar, SD, to Benjamin and Edith (Sutton) Westphal. She graduated from Agar High School and received her associates degree in dietetics from South Dakota State University in Brookings. She completed her Bachelors Degree at Colorado State University in Ft. Collins, at the age of 40.
Inez married George Kerner at Onida, SD, on June 13, 1949. The couple made their home in Kansas City, MO, and Inez worked at a women's clothing store where she did alterations and fittings. They moved to Denver, CO in 1961 where she continued to work in a women's clothing store until 1966 when they moved back to Kansas City. Inez worked in the dietetics department of the research hospital in Kansas City. They moved to Sturgis in 1973 and Inez was employed at Ft. Meade Veterans Hospital until her retirement.
Inez enjoyed bowling and gardening. Inez attended the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis and was a member of the American Dietetics Association.
Survivors include her husband, three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
