IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Iren Jay
"Bubba" Borup, Jr.
December 19, 1947 – February 1, 2020
Iren Jay "Bubba" Borup, Jr., 72, Sturgis, died, Saturday, February 1, 2020, at his home in Sturgis.
Bubba was born December 19, 1947, in Deadwood, SD, to Iren Borup, Sr. and Mercades DuPont. In 1966, he joined the US Army, serving in Vietnam until 1970, returning to Sturgis, SD. After his discharge from the Army, he worked for Homestake Mine, Wharf Mine, and in construction.
He loved riding and tinkering on his bike and anything Harley Davidson. He was a big Mopar fan, liked rock tumbling, and his drones, of which he had a huge collection, and liked making wine, also known to the family as moonshine. He loved guns, his fish tanks, both fresh and salt water, and loved working with his hands building things, like putting a motor on a kayak. There wasn't a project he didn't think he could fix. Most of all, Bubba loved his grandkids and could talk them into anything, good or bad, and they would do it!
Bubba fulfilled his dream of going to Washington D.C. to do the Rolling Thunder Run, meeting up with buddies from here and more that he met along the way. Bubba never knew a stranger. There was never anyone he wouldn't talk to, and believe us, he could talk your ear off! To him, everyone was a friend. Numerous times, Bubba tried to leave the Black Hills, but he always came back. This was his home, and as much as he hated the cold, he could never leave here.
Bubba is survived by his daughters, Deon Borup, Carmen Whinery, and Nicole Main; grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew, Luke, Cameron, Dylan, Dani, Gabby, Nicholas, and Christopher; and great-grandchildren, Ambrielle, Taylynn, Taisley, Jayma, Hazel, Liam, and Watson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Karen Lyons.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 6, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2020, also at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Committal services, with military honors, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery.
