Irma was born November 21, 1915, to Halvor and Elma (Rose) Olson on their family farm south of Mitchell, SD, where she grew up with her parents and siblings, Delmar and Vera (Moe).
In 1942, she married Charles "Chuck" Graves of Ethan in Buffalo, NY. After WWII broke out, they were both employed at Curtis-Wright
Aeronautical. Chuck was a fuselage foreman and Irma worked in the drafting department.
When the war ended, they moved to Ethan to be near family. Irma began a career as a Home Service Advisor for Northwestern Public Service in Mitchell. She retired after 21 years.
Irma and Chuck raised three children, Judy Hoenke of Rapid City, Jerry of Pierre and Jon of Sturgis. She moved to Rapid City from
Mitchell following her mothers' death to be closer to family. Irma was a member of South Canyon Lutheran Church.
Irma Graves, 101 years of age, died Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Sturgis Regional Senior Care surrounded by members of her family.
Her husband, Chuck, preceded her in death in 1971. She is survived by her children, Judy (Jerry Hoenke), Jerry (Nancy), and Jon (Joyce); 7 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.
Memorials will be presented to the Sturgis Regional Senior Care facility.
