Jack Venekamp, 88, Spearfish, passed away December 19, 2014, at Fort Meade VA Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at Kinkade Funeral Chapel at 10:00am on Tuesday, December 23, 2014, with Pastor Jenene Earl officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery with honors provided by the Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Monday December 22, 2014, between 5-7pm at Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Lunch will be provided after the burial at the Sturgis Vet's Club at noon.

Jack was born September 21, 1926, to John & Ethel Venekamp in Presho, S.D. He attended country school and graduated from Ames, Iowa as a diesel mechanic. He served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS LST 881, and the USS LST 775.

On June 27, 1948 he married his wife Doris Cross. They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in 2014.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Doris; sons, David (Cathy) Venekamp, Micheal Venekamp; daughters, Glenna Sprague, Lorraine Venekamp, Robin Sandor; 13 grandchildren ; 15 great grandchildren; brother, Herman (Beverly) Venekamp; and sister, Esther (Gene) Gerard.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ethel; brothers, Willis, Roger, and Robert Venekamp; and sisters, Dorothy Walters and Ann Meyers.

Jack was an all-around carpenter. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, playing cards, and his grandchildren.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of the Northern Hills in Spearfish, SD.
