Jack Leon Walker, 66, of Sturgis, died, Friday, September 21, 2012 at his home.

Memorial services will be, Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis with Rev. Will Olsen officiating. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis with military honors provided by Sturgis Veterans Honor Guard.

Jack was born in Rapid City on January 10, 1946 to Merle and Patricia (Kieffer) Walker. He grew up in Rockerville and attended school in Rapid City graduating from Rapid City High School. Jack joined the Navy in 1965 and was on the USS Randolph. On November 6, 1966, he married Paulette Kahl in Ridgefield, NJ. After an honorable discharge on August 27, 1969, Jack and Paulette returned to Rapid City and he went to work for Smokey Electric. Later Jack started working for GE in Casper, WY, Gillette, WY and in Tucson, AZ. While in Tucson he became a truck driver for Swift Transportation and then for Werner Enterprises. In 2005 Jack and Paulette returned to the Black Hills and Jack drove truck for Dixon Brothers out of Newcastle, WY. Due to heath reasons he retired in 2008 and in June of 2011 they moved to Sturgis. The time when Jack was happiest, was when he was riding his Harley.

Jack was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Sturgis, and a 35-year member of the Elks Lodge and a 20-year member of the Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Paulette of Sturgis; son Travis Walker of Sturgis, and granddaughter Tiffany Walker of Newcastle; daughter Erin (Jason) Figueroa and granddaughter Gabby of Phoenix, AZ; brother Jerry (Mary) Walker of Longmont, CO; brother-in-law Kermit (Cindy) Kahl of Shadehill; Sister-in-law Mary Ellen (Dale) Kreutz of Sturgis; and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by both of his parents and a sister Donna.

A memorial has been established to the Humane Society in Newcastle, WY.
