Obituary

Jacklyn E. Lewis, better known as Jackie or the Gypsy Lady, passed away on December 28, 2025, in Sturgis, South Dakota.

Jackie was born on October 4, 1933, in Martin, SD, to Ira and Alice (Ross) Lewis. She was raised and attended school in Martin. She loved exploring and was always on an adventure. Right after high school, Jackie worked at Kadoka Bank. Jackie later moved to Rapid City and worked various jobs, including bartending and keeping books for a local car dealer. Later, she landed a job at Barber Transportation. She eventually retired from there to travel south with her pickup and camper. She traveled to Arizona, New Mexico, and California for 30 years, making many new friends along the way.

Jackie enjoyed talking about her travels and the friends she met. After breaking her hip, her travels ended. She spent her remaining years in assisted living and then the Sturgis Nursing Care facility.

She enjoyed the Sturgis Rally and would sit outside, waving at all the bikes that rolled by. Her favorite was the Indian Motorcycle. Several bikers would stop to say “Hello” to Jackie and talk about her adventures on the Indian motorcycle. Jackie’s warm smile and adventurous stories will be greatly missed by her friends and those who cared for her.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Alice Lewis, and her sister, Gwendolyn “Sunny” Volesesky.
