Obituary

Jacob Brown 79, Sturgis, S.D., passed away Thursday (4/3/08) in Lincoln.

Born September 30, 1928 to David Sr. & Marie (Luft) Brown at Fruitdale, S.D. Jake grew up in the Vale area & graduated from high school there in 1945. He moved to Lead & worked for Thorpe Jewelry making Black Hills Jewelry. He later moved to Sturgis where he was employed by Knapp's Men's Store. Jake married Fern Limbo in November, 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. After being discharged, he moved to Omaha to join his wife. In 1953, he was employed by the Morris Paint Company where he started out in the office. In 1959, he moved to Lincoln & became a store manager where he worked until his retirement in 1999. He was well known in Lincoln for his talent of matching paint. In 2002, Jake & Fern moved back to Sturgis where he has been active in the First United Methodist Church. He really enjoyed his "coffee buddies" every morning & his CUBS.

Survivors: wife, Fern (Limbo) Brown; son & daughter-in-law, Doug & Kathy Brown, Alpharetta, Ga.; daughter, Susan Orta, Sturgis, S.D.; grandchildren, Brent Orta, Pawnee City; Nicki & Gus Morales, Olathe, Kan.; Jennifer & Kevin Bradshaw, Shawnee, Kan.; Katie & Ben Kirkland, Atlanta; Kristen Brown, Milledgeville, Ga.; David Brown, Alpharetta, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Blaine Orta; and Alex Kirkland; brothers & sisters-in-law, John & Betty Brown, Belle Fourche, S.D.; Dave Brown, Sturgis, S.D.; Richard & Marge Brown, Eagle Grove, Iowa; George & Mary Brown, Sparks, Nev.; sisters & brothers-in-law, Martha McGuire, Anaheim, Calif.; Eleanora & Ernie Miller, Sturgis, S.D.; Dorothy McGuire, Reno, Nev.; Betty & John Yeoman, Lakewood, Calif.; numerous nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harold Brown; grandsons, Michael Brown; and Daniel Brown.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday (04/07/08), Christ United Methodist Church, 4530 "A" St., Lincoln. Burial: Lincoln Memorial Park. Visitation: 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. Sunday (04/06/08) at the funeral home; and one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Memorials to Sturgis United Methodist Church; or American Diabetes Foundation.
