Jacob "Jack" Heidrich was born August 3, 1930, at Winona, ND, to Rudolf and Phillipina (Roehrich) Heidrich. The family moved to Nisland, SD, when Jack was very young. He was raised on the family farm. Following his graduation from high school, he married Mary Schumacher at Newell, SD, on September 9, 1952.
The couple lived on the family farm for several years before moving to Nisland where Jack worked for the U and I sugar beet plant. He joined the Butte County Highway Department where he worked until his retirement in 1997 after 28 years with the county.
Jack helped his children build their homes with his carpentry skills. He enjoyed taking care of his yard and spending time with his grandchildren. He also liked his music and listened to Polka's and Waltz's.
Jack, 82, Nisland, died Monday, December 24, 2012, at the Belle Fourche Long Term Care Center.
Survivors include his sons, Edward (Vicki) Heidrich, Park City, MT, Gregory Heidrich, Ft. Smith, MT, Dean Heidrich and LeRoy Heidrich, both of Belle Fourche; daughter, Susan (Robert) Schnaible, Belle Fourche; brothers, Harry Heidrich, Rapid City, Cap Heidrich, Nisland; sister, Jean Krysko, Miles City, MT; 8 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son, Francis; three sisters; and two brothers.
A memorial has been established to the St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newell.
