Jacob was born March 3, 1926, to Conrad and Elizabeth Rieb in Fruitdale, SD.
He served in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific in WWII. Jake married Esther Keil in 1949. He worked for the US Forest Service, then was employed by Homestake Mining Company from 1954-1990. Jake was best known for his sharpening service of 47 years in the basement of his home in Central City. One of the parts that he loved most about sharpening was meeting and getting to know a variety of people.
Jacob H. Rieb, 93, Appleton, WI, and formerly of Central City, died Thursday, November 7, 2019, at Manor Care in Appleton.
Jake is loved by many and will be dearly missed. Those grateful to have shared his life are son, Dan (Carol) Rieb, Clinton, UT, daughter, Mary Ann (Glenn) Gutknecht, Appleton, WI; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Those preceding him in death include his parents; son, Raymond; wife, Esther; 5 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2019, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Visitation will be prior to services at the funeral chapel. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established to Grace Lutheran Church in Deadwood.
