IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Ray
Brackett
June 2, 1943 – September 29, 2021
James R. Brackett, 78, of Deadwood, South Dakota, passed away on September 29, 2021, after a short illness and battle with COVID pneumonia. He was born June 2, 1943, in Denver, Colorado, where he resided until his move to Deadwood after his marriage to Jo Etta Heltibridle-Dickert. Jim was the oldest of three children born to Berton and Margaretta Brackett.
Jim started his own business just after graduating from high school. He went on to engage in several ventures including car racing on the national scene in Baja and other venues, and working the pit crew. He ultimately opened his own very successful Investment Casting business, building engine parts, brass castings for the doors into the senate and representative chambers at the Capitol building in Pierre and putters for the then president Gerald Ford, among many other things.
Jim loved taking high risks. He is most proud of his third-place finish on the Pikes Peak run, done before guard rails and pavement. He was also an avid skier. His passion in later years was fine gold discovery and refining.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jo Brackett; his sister, Gerri Brackett. His bigger than life personality will be greatly missed.
Services will be held 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Lead Assembly of God, Lead, South Dakota. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
