James "Jim" Jay Fettig was born on January 14, 1953, in Dickinson, ND, to Philip and Angeline (Angie) Fettig. Jim moved to South Dakota with his family in 1964. He attended high school and graduated in Rapid City, SD. While in high school, Jim won the State High School Rodeo Association bareback riding title and many other accomplishments in bull riding and roping. After high school, Jim received a rodeo scholarship to Black Hills State. Jim's passion for rodeo continued after college where he was a regular at many local ropings and rodeos throughout the region. Jim was well known in the arena and held many roping records and won several rodeos in his respected events.

Jim met Susan Kay White and they married in 1978. A year later, Jim's daughter, Jamie, was born and his son, Jay, joined the family three years
after that.

Jim will always be remembered as a hard worker and always there to lend a hand to another. Jim worked driving trucks, training horses, did custom haying, owned and operated J&S Saddle and Tack in Sturgis, built cabins and pole barns, and logging.

Jim loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting and fishing, camping and boating with his children and grandchildren, golfing, going to auctions, and
cooking.

Jim, 59, of Nemo died, Saturday, July 28, 2012, due to an accident while doing what he loved.

Grateful for having shared in Jim's life are his children, Jamie Fettig and Jay Fettig; his mother, Angie Fettig; his brother, LeRoy (Carla) Fettig;
two sisters, Linda (Craig) Fischer and Rita (Mark) Jacob; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and his loyal companion, "Skittles."

He was preceded in death by his father, Philip; his brother, Alan Fettig; sister, Anita Fettig VanderMay; nephew, Damon Brooks; and brother-inlaw,
Eric Brooks.
