James (Jim) Fix went to be with his Lord on June 22, 2022, at the South Dakota Veterans Home in Hot Springs, SD, with his family by his side.
Jim was born in 1941, in Onaka, SD, to Tony & Agatha Fix. After graduation from Cresbard High School in 1959, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served three tours of duty. During his second enlistment he volunteered to serve in Vietnam. While there Jim was awarded many medals including the Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and Several Good Conduct Medals. On more than one occasion, Jim was cited as "one of the most outstanding soldiers in the U.S. Army". Jim loved his country and was a true patriot.
Jim worked for the Department of Interior for 20 years. He was dedicated to caring for his mother in her home for seven years until her death.
Jim is survived by his two sisters, Sr. Mary Fix of Aberdeen, SD, and Monica Vandertuin (Gene Herold) of Sun Lakes, AZ; his brother-in-law, Jim Goebel of Long Lake, SD; and his sister-in-law, Monie Fix of Owatona, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Aton (Agatha) Fix; his sister, Eileen Goebel; and his brother, Jerry Fix.
After a private family service interment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors near Sturgis, SD.
