James Leo Lowe, 78, Rapid City, died Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Visitation will be noon until 9 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Rev. Denzel Nonhof officiating. Burial with military honors by the Belle Fourche Veterans Honor Guard follows at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
A memorial has been established.
James was born August 23, 1931 at Twin Brooks, SD, to James B. and Viona K. (DeLint) Lowe. He worked for a road construction company near Aberdeen. He also drove a milk truck for the South Shore Creamery which allowed him the chance to shoot ducks and geese during the fall.
James married Verda J. Clausen at Aberdeen on January 30, 1955. They moved to Rapid City where James worked for Hills Materials and Northwest Engineering in the late 60's. He worked for the Peter Kewitt Company until 1984 and Simons Construction for one year. He worked for Meade County until his retirement in the early 90's. The family moved to Newell where he lived until his health began to fail.
James loved to hunt and fish.
Survivors include his wife Verda Lowe, Rapid City; two sons, Douglas L. (Pam) Lowe, Black Hawk, Robert Lowe, Black Hawk; two brothers, Russell (Ruth) Lowe, South Shore, SD, Robert (Frances) Lowe, Twin Brooks; two sisters, Verna (Jim) Sparks, Yankton, Darlene (Jim) White, Cameron, NC; two grandchildren, Amber (Brandon) Foster, Jeremy (Danielle) Lowe, all of Black Hawk; also 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons; Leslie and Michael.
