James Patrick Luze, Sr., 73, Lead, passed away Saturday, December 14, 2013, after a brief illness.
Jim was born September 15, 1940, to Vernon and Frances Luze in Hendricks, MN. He grew up on his family farm near Elkton, SD, with one older brother and one younger sister. After graduating from Elkton High School, Jim entered the United States Navy and became a medic. While stationed in Bremerton, WA, he married Donna Mae Haines in 1961. They had four children, Jim Luze Jr, Lead, Linda Luze (deceased), Vonda (Shane) Storley, Britton, SD, and Todd (Kathy) Luze, Lead.
In 1988, Jim married Annabel Harrison and welcomed her children, Jake Harrison, Newtown, ND, Larry Harrison, Gillette, WY, David Harrison (deceased), Dorla Harrison, Lead, Kent Harrison, Craig, CO, and Tracey Harrison, Lead.
Jim worked for Homestake Mining Corporation for 26 years. He had many interests and enjoyed playing the accordion, woodworking, traveling, and bird hunting with his brother near their childhood home.
Jim is survived by his wife, Annabel; his children; his brother, Vernon (Bitha) of Memphis, TN, as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; a daughter; two stepsons; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Kinkade Funeral Chapel with Father Ed Vanorny officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery near Deadwood.
Memorials may be made in Jim's name to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Lead.
