James Patrick Luze, Jr. of Lead, SD, passed away on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, from injuries sustained in an ATV accident. He was 59 years old.
Jim was born to James Luze, Sr. and Donna (Haines) Johnston in Bremerton, WA, on April 7, 1962. Jim briefly attended primary school in Elkton, SD, and later attended Lead Elementary and Graduated from Lead High School in 1980. Following High School, he joined the United States Army and served his country faithfully for 21 years; after which he was honorably discharged. He returned to his hometown and began his career as a successful businessman, owning and operating Black Hills Disposal.
Jim enjoyed cribbage with family, horseshoes, old westerns, camping, and spending time at the lake with good friends. He enjoyed get-togethers and grilling on his deck for family and friends. Jim had a bigger than life personality with a booming voice who was easily recognizable wherever he went. He was a good friend with a big heart and was always willing to help those who needed him. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends who loved him dearly.
Jim is survived by his mother, Donna Johnston of Spearfish, SD; three daughters, Jacqueline Holtz of NE, Krystal Gentile of Rapid City, SD, and Rebecca Hayes of Laramie, WY; and one son, Killian Luze of Lead, SD; one brother, Todd (Kathy) Luze of Lead, SD; and one sister, Vonda (Shane) Storley of Britton, SD; several grandchildren; numerous nieces, and nephews as well as many close friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, James Sr; and his sister, Linda.
Committal services will be 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors.
