Obituary

James Mathew Murphy, 58, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

To most people he was known as Matt or Mathew. He was born on October 11, 1964, in Torrance, California. His are parents Emilina and Raymond Murphy who are now residents of Maine. Mathew had a very close relationship with his mother, Emilina, and they would always talk regularly. Mathew graduated from Stevens High School in Rapid City, SD, and then enlisted in the United States Marine Corp shortly after graduation.

Mathew took pride in the time he served as a Marine, and always thought it as one of his greatest accomplishments, alongside being a loving father and grandfather. Matt's legacy lives on by his daughter, Treasure Murphy; son-in-law, Derrick Baker; granddaughters, Paradise-Nova Baker and Jacklyn Baker; ex-wife, Trinity Peoples; mother, Emilina Murphy; father, Raymond Murphy; sister, Rema Mitchell; nephew, Cody Brown; niece, Sasha Rea; and so many more family and friends that Matthew has impacted in his short life.

He was known to be an amazing, loving, and caring father and grandfather. Family was everything to Mathew, he did everything in his power to ensure his family was happy and loved. He had such a giving, humble heart, was often seen helping elderly, and anyone who needed a helping hand.

Mathew was always a hard worker, if it wasn't mowing lawns for his landscaping business, or doing mechanic work on one of his vehicles, he always went above and beyond. Matt had a love for loud music, horror movies, reading a good book, riding a bicycle, practical jokes, and sharing his loud contagious laugh. His favorite weekly activity was when he got to take his granddaughters to the movies every Sunday, he would take the time to even dress up for the outing. He valued every moment he had with his grandchildren and would call them the "Baker Sisters".

Mathew was THE BEST father to Treasure, and he showed to be THE BEST Grandfather also. The love he had for his only daughter and his granddaughters was unparalleled, and he would go to any length to show them that. Family and Honor were above all else with Mathew. Our family may have lost a relative, but we certainly gained one Hell of a Guardian Angel!
