Rapid City | James A Saunders, 68, of Rapid City, died Sunday, Oct 18, 2015 at Rapid City Regional Hospital Hospice of the Hills. Jim was born in Los Angeles California August 8, 1947. After his birth the family moved back to Iowa where his father became the Golden Gloves State Boxing Champion and Jim was the Diaper Weight Golden Gloves State Boxing Champion. During his high school years at La Puente High School in California he participated in baseball, wrestling and football. He was named MVP in football his senior year when he met the love of his life, Sharon Hogle who he was married to for 49 years. He coached Little League Baseball and together with his father started the Pop Warner Football league in Northern California. Later in life, he joined the Men's Slow Pitch softball league where he was named MVP for making the only unassisted triple play. He was full of life, never met a stranger, loved deeply, took care of business, raised some hell, a hard worker, a cowboy and a true highwayman. He was a great athlete, father, husband and friend and earned honorable mention for being weatherman Jim. He will be missed forever by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Sharon, Rapid City; a son, Jimmy (Rhonda) Saunders, Rapid City; a daughter, Deanna (Frank) Trask, Washington; four grandchildren, Jordan (Sam) Tanis, Austin Saunders, Paydon Trask and Dalton Trask; two sisters, Diana (Jeff) Lewis and Donna Waldman; sister-in-law, Alice Smith; brother-in-law's, Ronnie Hogle, Terry (Holly)Smith, Skeeter (Margene) Smith; two foster sisters, Jana LaPeer and Jami (Rich) Sartain; a foster brother, Marc (Linda)Haygood; mother-in-law, Peggy Mahaney; Aunt Jean Baker, Uncle Rob (Pat) Kuhns and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Blanche Saunders & brother-in-law's Chuck Waldman, Butchie Hogle and Carl Smith. Upon his request, cremation has taken place and services will be held in California at a later date.
