James Henry Whitaker, 64, of Anderson, passed away on June 24, 2018, at Fort Meade VA Medical Hospital, Sturgis, South Dakota.
He was born on April 3, 1954, in Anderson, Indiana. James graduated from Mountain Home High School in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He served his country in the Navy. He was a concrete pourer. He was a member of New Purpose Ministries and enjoyed watching Westerns and smoking cigars.
James is survived by his loving spouse, Brenda Whitaker; children, Christina (Nathan) Padgett, Jennifer (Doug) Bird, James Henry Whitaker Jr., Amanda (David) Johnson; stepson, Roger (Shelley Conyers) Eubank; grandchildren, Alyssa, Kelley and Jason Bird, Joshua Whitaker; stepgrandchildren, Illiana (Tre Fileds) Eubank, Jourdan Eubank, Catlin, Lillian, Sarah, Ethan, Elizabeth and Ben Thompson; siblings, Nora Crawford, Kathy Stone, Bettye Kayzer, Benny Whitaker, Marvin Whitaker; and best friend, Rayzell Hummel.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Cora Mae Whitaker; father, James Harvey Whitaker; siblings, Jack Ray Whitaker, Robert "Bob" Earl Whitaker, Silvia Whitaker, Nona Whitaker, Evan Whitaker, Wanita Whitaker, and Bill Franklin Whitaker; sisters-in-law, Judy Whitaker and Dawn Whitaker; and brother-in-law, William Crawford.
Visitation was conducted Monday at Loose Funeral Homes & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson. Services will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Darnell Williams and Fred Rayford officiating. Burial will take place in the Marion National Cemetery, Marion, IN. www.loosecares.com.
