Janella M. Peterson, 73, Sturgis, died Feb. 1, 2006, at her winter residence in Mesa, Ariz.

Visitation was from noon until 5 p.m., Monday, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis. Wake and Rosary services were at 7 p.m. Monday at the Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis.

Funeral services were 10 a.m., Tuesday, at the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Sturgis, with Fr. Arnold Kari officiating.

A prayer service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday Feb. 8, 2006 at the Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem, with Father Mike Schneider officiating. Burial follows at St. Mary's Cemetery in Salem.

Janella was born Jan. 1, 1933, to Henry and Elizabeth (Wingen) Stoffel at Salem. She grew up in Salem and graduated from Saint Mary's High School.

She married Udell Peterson on July 8, 1957, in Salem. They moved to Beresford, and Janella worked at a clothing store. In 1963 they moved to Sturgis where she was employed as a cook in the school system. Udell and Janella retired in 1989. For the past 16 years they have spent their winters in Mesa.

Janella was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and the church circle.

Memorials have been established to the St. Francis Church and Meade County Senior Citizens Center.

Survivors include her husband, Udell Peterson, Sturgis; two brothers, Gerald Stoffel and his wife Darlene, Alcester, Donald Stoffel and his wife Becky, Toledo, Ohio; one sister Joanne Schneider and her husband Roderick, Salem; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Elvera, Mildred, and Loneita; and two brothers, Eugene and Delbert.
