Piedmont | Jean M. Gilbert, 94, passed away December 22, 2017 in Hot Springs.

Jean was born on November 26, 1923 in West Sioux Falls, SD to Harley D. and Rena A. (Bartram) Patheal. She grew up in West Sioux Falls graduating from Washington High School in 1941.

In 1944 she married Lyle Peterson; one daughter was born to this union. Lyle passed away in 1958.

Jean married Roy Gilbert in 1976. They lived in Sioux Falls and later moved to Chancellor, SD.  After retirement, they enjoyed winters in Arizona for a few years.  In 1993, they moved to Piedmont to be near her daughter and son-in-law.  Roy passed away in 2013.

She had a great love for animals, especially horses, dogs, and cats. She enjoyed horseback riding in her younger years.  After moving to Piedmont she adopted several stray cats and kittens.

Jean's hobbies included playing cards, working crossword puzzles and watching television.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Duane) Wetering; grandsons, Jason (Julie) Wetering, and Justin (Shiloh) Wetering; grandchildren, Pierce, Breanna, Shateah, Shanae, Shiressa, Jusiah; several nieces and nephews; her beloved step-daughters, their children and grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Rena Patheal; husband, Roy; brother, Lester; and sisters, Doris and Edna.
