IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean E.
Hermann
December 26, 1918 – May 21, 2018
Jean was born and raised in Omaha, NE, and graduated from the University of Nebraska (Omaha) with a B.A. in biology. While working as a medical lab tech, she met and married Dr. Harland T. Hermann on February 28, 1948, residing close to family in Omaha. To this union, which was to last over 70 years, were born their three children: Tom, Lucy, and Richard. The family moved to Ft. Meade, SD, in 1959 where Harland practiced psychiatry and adopted South Dakota as home.
Jean was a wonderful homemaker, mother, and wife, supporting her children and husband in all their endeavors and study groups. She was always the family organizer and got things done with a smile, what a MOM. She shared her life with many dear friends and was family to many. She participated in AAUW, Toastmistress, Current Events Club, TOPS and, with her PEO Chapter CK, sewed beanies for all incoming freshmen at SD School of Mines and Technology.
She and Harland moved to Mitchell, SD, for over 10 years, eventually returning to Sturgis and Rapid City, and finally residing at Westhills Village.
Her family and grandchildren were her source of endless joy and "hallelujahs" and even an occasional "hot diggity dog."
Jean loved reading, dancing, the Lawrence Welk Music Hour, and especially their "attitude adjustment hour" with family and friends. At the end of her wonderful meals, many can recall her to say, "stomp on your hollow leg to make room for your dessert." She will always be remembered for the genuine warmth of her heart and beauty of her smile. "Hallelujah" to all.
Jean E. Hermann, 99, Rapid City, died Monday, May 21, 2018, at Westhills Village.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Harland T. Hermann, Rapid City; two sons, Dr. H. Thomas (Terry) Hermann, Sturgis, and Richard L. Hermann, Los Angeles, CA; one daughter, Lucy Moore (Gareth) Stevens, Hubertus, WI; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Black Hills National Cemetery with Chaplain Herbert Cleveland officiating. Family and friends may gather at Kinkade Funeral Chapel Saturday morning at 8:45 a.m.
