Jeanne Sue Rose was born to Earl and Maxine (Joy) Rose on March 8, 1960, in Chamberlain, SD. She was raised in Chamberlain, SD, with two brothers, Jerry and Jay Rose. The family moved and then lived in Mobridge from 1968-1973, and then in 1973, they moved to Sturgis. Jeanne graduated from Sturgis and went onto Madison to go to college at SDSU from 1979-1981.
One of her big thrills in life is that she got to go visit Paris and England. Jeanne was a nanny in Sturgis for a couple of years. She later taught and owned her own preschool in her home and in May of 1984, she met the love of her life, Dick Nusom and they were married October 13, 1984, in Sturgis. They moved to Colorado and Jeanne worked for several preschools and day cares. In 1993, they moved to Sturgis to be closer to her family. She worked for a while at a preschool in Rapid City and in the office of Rose's Sanitation, which her parents owned. Jeanne was a cat person and loved her kitty cats, and she also loved country music. Jeanne fought cancer from 2013-2020 off and on, and the cancer finally won.
Jeanne Sue Nusom, 60, of Sturgis died May 26, 2020, at Monument Health Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.
Jeanne is survived by her husband of 35 years, Arthur "Dick" Nusom; brothers, Jerry (Renee) Rose, and Jay (Lisa) Rose; sister-in-law, Dawn Starr; lots of nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews; and a very special person in her life, a niece, Daniella Varella.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Maxine Rose; and three uncles, Robert Rose, Harold Rose, and Bud McGraw.
Funeral services for Jeanne Sue Nusom will be 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2020, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Chaplain Erin Erickson officiating. Visitation starting at 11:00 am until service time. Inurnment will be Monday, June 1, 2020, at Bear Butte Cemetery in Sturgis.
A memorial has been established to the Sturgis Animal Shelter.
