Obituary

Jerald Edwin Schlenker, 57, Sturgis, SD passed away at home on Sunday, November 24, 2024.

Jerald was born January 20th, 1967, in Pierre, SD. He attended school in Onida, SD until the family moved to Patagonia, AZ when he was 9. After gaduating high school, he attended Cochise College and then worked as an airplane mechanic.

Growing up, Jerald greatly enjoyed the outdoors, and would go on long walkabouts and hunts with his older brother Ronald. He also loved woodworking, and turned it into a career as a cabinet maker and carpenter with Riss Brothers when he moved back to Rapid City in 1995. He earned the title Master Craftsman of the Year while there.

Jerald continued living throughout the Black Hills area for the rest of his life, and pursued his favorite hobby, fishing. He also loved spending time with his furry best friend, Mr. Kitty, and then more recently his new companion/playful handful, Otis.

He was also the proud uncle of several nieces and nephews, and was there for every milestone and accomplishment as he watched them grow up.

We remember him for his big heart, his generosity, his sense of humor, and he will be deeply missed by many.

He is survived by his father Raymond, Sturgis; his sisters: Deborah Zimmerman (Micheal), Sturgis; Dianne Voyles, Madison, AL; Joanne Everson (Roger) Mesa, AZ; Elaine Schlenker; his brothers: Raynard (Diane), Pierre; Ronald, Bedias, TX. He is also survived by 13 nieces and nephews, and 6 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Delores, his sister-in-law Kelly Schlenker, and his brother-in-law Clayton Voyles.

Funeral plans will include cremation and a later memorial service and spreading of his ashes at a date to be determined.
